the honeybees are coming......

I am so excited.. we are getting 2 hives of bees on May 1st.. well ,we get the bees in a package.. WE have to get them into the hive.. but that will be another story...hehe....
We have a group of friends who also want to do their bit to help the sweet little pollinators', so we all decided to jump in together and all order hives.

In order to celebrate their impending arrival, I made this cake to take to a fab soiree' at Leslie's house ( she is one of the soon to be beekeepers also).

Ooh. check out that cute cake stand I found at William and Sonoma'. that's right people...honeycomb and bees !! ( I know..I know.. I'm nuts!)

But here is the best part .. this gorgeous 'oh so pretty 'cake made with lemon zest and honey and filled with luscious gooey 'lemon curd'.... had the delicate texture of...

a brick.

Haha. yup that's right.. don't ever get an artist to make your cake... all about aesthetics!!! haha.. Methinks I gotta' keep practicing my 'light as a feather' cake skills.
But 3 cheers to the brave souls who happily helped me eat 'pretty / honey/ brick cake . :)

Lossa love , Helen xxxx

  6. Yeah! I'm so happy for you. Good luck getting the hive situated. We called a local beekeeper to help us and he has been tending/teaching us how to take care of our hive ever since.
Me thinks you need to patent your frosting recipe to a glue or mortar company! Happy accidents are how we got velcro and super glue. Just a thought. hee hee

  11. The bees will go in to their hives....the bees will go into their hives....the bees WILL go into their hives. I just keep meditating.
PS Ya'll, she's way to humble. Once we "sawed" into the outer shell of the cake, it tasted lovely. Just kidding Helen...hehehehe

  14. I've been collecting little beehive containers and this would be perfect to add to my collection. I need to run over to see if they still have the cake stand. Icing on the cake (pun intended) will be if they have the cake mold. Thanks for sharing!
